Camomile Blue products are a manifestation of my years exploring the wonders of the plant world. The growing season here in Vermont is notoriously fleeting, but I've had a bountiful garden to show for each of the past eighteen of them. In 1992, I traveled to England to study with renowned garden designer, John Brooks and ended up staying for six months, working in public and private gardens. When I returned, I began an ongoing course of study and apprenticeship with the highly respected herbalist, Rosemary Gladstar, during which I vastly deepened my understanding of the healing nature of herbs. I carried my experience into my work as co-owner of Blueberry Hill Inn in Goshen, Vermont, where I happily assumed responsibility for designing and developing the Zone 3/4 gardens there. For years, I planted and tended the flowers, vegetables and herbs that graced the dining tables at the inn and the one at home. The herbs inspired me to create my own line of salves and creams for the enjoyment of our guests, and tinctures for the health of my friends and family.
Though I personally develop the recipes, grow many of the herbs, and create the products myself, I refer to "us" at Camomile Blue in honor of the ongoing support and help from friends, family and community without whom I could not have realized this dream. My friend and nearest neighbor, Win, designs my labels, pretties up my web site, and comes to my rescue when I goof up on editing it. My dear friend Joanna is a source of endless inspiration and clever ideas for product names, and a lovely test subject for my new product samples. And, my incredibly wise and beautiful friend Claire puts words, and sometime deliciously yummy food, in my mouth when I need it most. I rely on community and customers for ideas and inspiration to keep pace with this ever-blossoming venture. My children, Britta and Oliver, put up with the big jars of steeping herbs, and blenders full of gooey salves on the counters, help with packaging and labeling, and provide honest, uncensored reviews of each product. They are my on-site quality control personnel and work for room, board and a lot of love.
